Mango Mentors - with Lyric Hammersmith Theatre

We are thrilled to announce our first mentorship scheme in association with Lyric Hammersmith Theatre


Shadow Director: For one week you will assist the professional director in rehearsal, you will accompany the show to a tour of one venue and experience the rehearsal room, tech, fit up and first preview of a professional touring production. 


Shadow Playwright: For one day you will experience behind the scenes access to rehearsals ahead of our national tour, you will be mentored by the Peter Shaffer Playwright in Residence, and recieve workshops and dramaturgical feedback on your work.


What we are looking for?


  • One 18-25 year old early career director who identifies as from the Global Majority and/or state school educated.

  • Two 18-25 year old early career playwrights who identify as from the Global Majority and/or state school educated. 

  • Those who are interested in professional touring productions, political theatre and regional theatre. We are most interested in your creativity, passion and imagination above formal experience. 

  • We are particularly interested in hearing from those who are from the Global Majority and state school educated, neuro divergent, disabled, part of the LGBTQ+ community, those from low-income households, those in care, are care leavers, or are carers. This is not a definitive & complete list, you may belong to none, one, or several of these groups, and we highly encourage you to apply if you feel interested in the project.


In order to apply, you must fulfil all the following criteria:

  • Be 18-25 at the time of application.

  • Directors: Must be able to commit to all sessions at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre – and ideally the ability to travel for one day to our first session in our first venue. 

  • Writers: Must be able to commit to one/two sessions at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre.

    • Monday 23rd September 10:00 – 18:00 

    • Tuesday 24th September 10:00 – 18:00 

    • Wednesday 25th September 10:00 – 18:00 

    • Director only: Thursday 26th September 12:00 - 21:00 (travel to first venue - outside of London travel costs are covered)
