The Why

We founded after noticing a FUNDAMENTAL IMBALANCE in theatre programming. With the systematic underfunding of the arts in this country, our artistic culture has become increasingly stifled and unambitious.

Theatres have been shackled by commercial interests equating PROFIT with VALUE. Which is not a place art can truly flourish.

We are a theatre company that was formed to challenge the lack of diversity and “safe” white middle class theatre that was being produced for white middle class audiences.

We aim to prove that it isn’t a “risk” to champion diverse stories, employ diverse artists and tell diverse stories. We aim to redress the imbalance we have seen in our theatrical culture. From investing in emerging working class and global majority creatives to touring to areas which have been hit with a huge underfunding of the arts, diversity is at the heart of everything we do.

We want to champion young people, and prove that careers in theatre aren't just for the overprivileged in society.  Young artists are and have always been key to challenging the status quo. Yet many are shut out of the theatre landscape, driven by a fear of financial risk, and even more so if they aren't white, middle-class, able bodies and gender conforming.

We are going to change that.
